Apollo and Daphne

Apollo, the god of divine distance, loved Daphne deeply, so the story from Greek mythology goes. Actually Apollo was obsessed with Daphne. Sadly for Apollo though, Daphne rejected him, as she did all her suiters.

Apollo was a bit relentless in his pursuit of her (I guess he couldn’t take a hint). Daphne grew tired of his advances and prayed to her father, Ladon, for rescue.

The Laurel Leaf

To save his daughter, Ladon turned Daphne into a laurel tree. Oh snap! Apollo, devastated by the loss, used the leaves of the laurel tree to make a wreath which he wore and gave to others as a symbol of honor and victory.

The Laurel Home uses the laurel leaf as a symbol of prosperity and protection. Laurel wreaths sat atop the heads of Greek and Roman rulers as a sign of their rank and status. It was believed lightning never struck a laurel tree. Emperors wore laurel wreaths on their heads as protection and for it’s believed medicinal benefits.

The Laurel Home’s candles are named for this tiny part of Greek mythology and seek to bring you love, prosperity, and protection.
